Despite renewed investor interest and record headline inflows, Africa remains structurally underweighted within global capital allocation frameworks. Foreign Direct Investment into the continent reached $97 billion in 2024, representing just 6% of global FDI and remaining heavily concentrated within a handful of markets and large-scale projects, particularly Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria.

As investors continue to chase sustainable energy solutions, Africa’s abundance of renewable energy resources (Solar, Wind and Hydro-Electric) has already attracted major investment commitments, including Mauritania’s UAE backed $34b green hydrogen initiative, aiming to bring sustainable development, economic diversification and enhanced energy security to the region.
